XLSX Planogram Import
GoPlanogram can import planograms from specially formatted XLSX (Excel) spreadsheets. This page describes the expected file format and how the import process works.
File Structure
An XLSX planogram file has two sections: a header metadata block at the top and a fixture/position table below it.
Header Metadata
The first rows of the spreadsheet contain key/value pairs that describe the overall planogram. Each row has a label in column A and its value in column B:
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| POG Name | Name of the planogram | Cereal Aisle 4ft |
| Bay Width | Width of each bay in units | 48 |
| Bay Depth | Depth of each bay in units | 20 |
| Bay Height | Height of each bay in units | 72 |
| Bay Color | Fill color for the bays (CSS color or "transparent") | transparent |
| Bays | Number of bays in the aisle | 2 |
| Rack Type | Type of rack: Shelving, Pegboard, Slatwall, or Wirerack | Pegboard |
| Units (optional) | Measurement units: in (inches) or cm (centimeters). Defaults to the current user's units setting if
omitted. | in |
Fixture / Position Table
Below the header, a table describes all fixtures and their product positions.
The table must begin with a header row whose first cell is FixtureType. Column names are matched case-insensitively and
ignore whitespace.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| FixtureType | Shelf or Rack. Only present on fixture
header rows. |
| FixtureName | Display name for the fixture. |
| Bay | 1-based bay number. On fixture rows, this sets the default bay. On product rows, this can override the fixture's bay (useful for pegged items that span multiple bays). |
| Width | Shelf width in units (optional; defaults to bay width). |
| Align | Shelf alignment/layout: Left, Right, Even, Center, or blank for none. |
| Product ID | The product's catalog item ID. Only present on position rows. |
| Facings Wide | Number of horizontal facings (defaults to 1). |
| Facings High | Number of vertical facings (defaults to 1). |
| PegX | Horizontal peghole offset (for pegged/rack positions only). Measured in peghole counts from the left. |
| PegY | Vertical peghole offset (for pegged/rack positions only). Measured in peghole counts from the top. |
Row Types
There are two kinds of data rows in the table:
- Fixture rows — have a value in the
FixtureTypecolumn (ShelforRack). These define a new fixture and the bay it belongs to. - Position rows — have a
Product IDbut noFixtureType. These are placed on the most recently defined fixture.
Shelf Ordering
Shelves listed in the spreadsheet are placed bottom-up within each bay. The last shelf in the spreadsheet for a given bay becomes the base deck (the bottom-most shelf). Each subsequent shelf above it is spaced based on the tallest product on the shelf below.
Products on each shelf are placed left-to-right in the order they appear in the spreadsheet. After all products are placed, the shelf's alignment type (Left, Right, Even, Center) is applied.
Pegged Positions
Positions under a Rack fixture row are placed directly on the
rack using PegX and PegY as peghole offsets. These are
multiplied by the rack's cell size to compute the final position.
Each pegged position row may specify its own Bay value to override the
fixture header's bay. This allows a single Rack fixture group to
place items across multiple bays.
Example
Below is an example of a valid XLSX layout:
| A | B |
|---|---|
| POG Name | Demo Aisle |
| Bay Width | 48 |
| Bay Depth | 20 |
| Bay Height | 72 |
| Bay Color | transparent |
| Bays | 2 |
| Rack Type | Shelving |
| Units | in |
| FixtureType | FixtureName | Bay | Width | Align | Product ID | Facings Wide | Facings High | PegX | PegY |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shelf | Top Shelf | 1 | Left | ||||||
| SKU-001 | 2 | 1 | |||||||
| SKU-002 | 1 | 2 | |||||||
| Shelf | Base Deck | 1 | Left | ||||||
| SKU-003 | 3 | 1 | |||||||
| Rack | Pegs | 2 | |||||||
| 2 | SKU-004 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | ||||
| 2 | SKU-005 | 1 | 1 | 5 | 0 |
In this example, Bay 1 gets two shelves (Top Shelf and Base Deck, with Base Deck as the bottom shelf), while Bay 2 gets two pegged products.
Importing
To import an XLSX planogram, go to File → Import → XLSX File. In the dialog that appears:
- Select an
.xlsxfile from your computer. - Choose a Catalog to use for product lookup. Product IDs in the spreadsheet will be matched against items in this catalog.
- Click Import to clear the current plan and load the XLSX planogram (you will be warned if there are unsaved changes), or click Insert to add the XLSX contents into the existing plan without clearing it.
