Textblocks

Textblocks can be used to label part of a display, represent placeholder items, or otherwise explain something to anyone looking at a Plan.

A Textblock can be created via Insert > Text (via context or header menu). Pressing "T" creates a Textblock at the cursor location.

Textblocks in various use cases

Placeholder Product

A common use case for Textblocks is for them to be used as placeholder product Positions, often to represent competitor SKU's, or when an item does not need to be codified within a Catalog.

To do so, check Specify Dimensions, set the Width and Height accordingly, then check Can Layout. This results in a Textblock that can be parented to Racks and Shelves, and will be included in Shelf layouts.

Checking Specify Dimensions also removes the Resizable option, so the Textblock keeps exactly the dimensions you entered -- which is the point of using one as a stand-in product.

Properties

A Textblock's properties can be edited by double-clicking it, or via Right Click > Properties.

Textblock properties dialog

The font family used for the text.
Font Size
The size of the text in points.

The dimensions of the Textblock in the current units. Only available when Specify Dimensions is checked.
Units
Whether the Textblock's dimensions are in inches or centimeters.
Bold / Italic
Text styling options.
Selectable and Movable
Whether the Textblock can be selected and moved by the user.
Resizable
Whether the Textblock can be resized by dragging its handles. Only available when Specify Dimensions is unchecked -- a Textblock with explicit dimensions is never resizable.
Can Layout
Check this if the Textblock should be included in Shelf layouts, if it is on a Shelf with a layout defined.
Has Background
Whether the Textblock has a visible background color. When unchecked, the background is transparent.
