Fixture Layouts

A Layout determines how a fixture automatically arranges the Product Positions placed on it. Rather than positioning each item by hand, you set a Layout once and the fixture keeps its contents arranged as you add, remove, and resize items.

Layout is the first property in the Properties dialog of every fixture that supports one: Shelves, Containers, and Bars.

Shared Layouts

These Layouts behave the same way on Shelves, Containers, and Bars, and cover most everyday cases.

None
No automatic arrangement. Positions stay exactly where you drop them. This is the default, and is the right choice whenever placement is deliberate rather than rule-driven.
Left
Positions snap to the leftmost available spot, respecting Spacing, without creating overlaps. Adding an item packs it against the items already there; deleting one closes the gap.
Right
The mirror of Left -- Positions pack against the right edge of the fixture.
Even
Positions fill the fixture edge to edge: one item sits flush against the left end, one against the right, and the remaining space is distributed evenly between all of them. Because the spacing is calculated to fill the fixture, Even does not take a Spacing value.
Center
All Positions are centered as a group on the fixture, with consistent Spacing between each one. Available on Shelves and Containers.

Spacing

Left, Right, and Center Layouts accept a Spacing value, which sets the horizontal gap left between each item when the fixture lays out its contents. It appears beside the Layout dropdown once one of those Layouts is chosen.

None has nothing to space, and Even derives its spacing from the width of the fixture, so neither shows the input.

Segmented Layouts

Segmented

The fixture is divided into a fixed number of equal segments, and Positions snap to those segments rather than to arbitrary points. Set the number of divisions with the Segments input that appears beside the Layout dropdown.

This is ideal for coolers, cosmetics walls, and any fixture built around fixed compartments. Available on Shelves and Containers.

Fixture-Specific Layouts

Resize (Containers only)
Positions are resized uniformly so that they fit inside the Container. See the Containers page for a demonstration.
Hooks (Bars only)

Defines a finite set of valid snap points along the Bar, one per hook. Positions snap to those hooks rather than anywhere along the Bar.

Positions on a Hooks Bar take their Hook from the Bar's Hook Defaults, rather than from the Position itself. The number and placement of hooks is controlled by the Bar's # Hooks and X Offset properties.

Setting a Layout Quickly

With one or more Shelves, Bars, or Containers selected, you can set the most common Layouts from the keyboard without opening the Properties dialog:

  • 1: Set Layout to None
  • 2: Set Layout to Left
  • 3: Set Layout to Even
  • 4: Set Layout to Right

Combining Fixtures

Shelves and Bars have a Can Combine property. When two or more of them are vertically aligned, share the same Layout, and all have Can Combine checked, they are laid out as though they were a single, longer fixture. This is how a run of Shelves spanning several Bays can be made to flow as one.

Can Combine can be toggled for the current selection with the ` key.

Layouts and Positions

A Layout arranges whole Positions, not the individual facings within them. The gap between the facing columns of a single Position is controlled by that Position's own Spacing inputs in the Inspector.

Textblocks are ignored by Layouts unless their Can Layout property is checked, which is what makes a Textblock usable as a placeholder product.
